Take the Right Steps!

Congratulations to Debbie Grilli the grand prize winner of the 2009 Right Steps Contest.
Her prize? A bicycling tour for two through beautiful Napa Valley.

“This is exciting—you don’t know I really, really worked hard for this,” Grilli said. “Working out is just a part of my life now. It is what I do. I am a gym junkie. I am 52 years old and I have guns. It is something to be proud of.”

During the Right Steps contest Grilli walked more than 1,740,000 steps, the equivalent of 825 miles in just eight months.

That is like walking from Coeur d’Alene, ID to Sacramento, CA. For every 60,000 steps in a seven-day period Grilli got her name entered into the contest. During the course of eight months she earned 29 contest entries.

Grilli has participated in the Right Steps contest every year since 2004 when it started, and credits Right Steps for helping her become more health conscious.

“Right Steps is what motivated me. I went out and bought a pedometer,” she said. “It keeps you aware of your activity. It helps hold you accountable. When you have to log your steps and to see it there it keeps you on track.”

While the contest is called Right Steps, it is not just a walking program. The goal is to help encourage community members to take the right steps in healthy directions. Participants can convert any form of physician activity into steps online at www.myrightsteps.com.
