Right Steps Winner

The latest Right Steps contest winner is Melisa Locke, a Benewah Community Hospital employee. Locke was awarded a check for $500 dollars. During the Right Steps Contest Locke walked more than 480,000 steps, that is 240 miles in just two months!

When she started the Right Steps Contest she was walking just 3,400 steps a day, and realized that if she wanted to see the benefits of walking she was going to have to make a real effort to get up from her desk throughout the day and walk.   Locke and two other co-works decided to make a point to walk together a number of times during the week. On their lunch break they would do a two mile walk around St. Maries, Idaho, and before she knew it she was walking 15,000 steps a day.

Locke says wearing the pedometer kept her aware of her activity level and helped her set fitness goals. She says since making walking a part of her daily life she has a lot more energy. Locke decided to participate in the Right Steps Contest because she wants to get to a healthy weight so she can have children.
